During the WDW Marathon Meetup, we had the pleasure of meeting Desiree Davila, who in 2011, placed second in the Boston Marathon with a time of 2:22.38. This was a course record for an American female!

29 Minutes to a BQ
For most runners, qualifying for the Boston Marathon is the culmination of hard training and mental toughness, turning a dream into reality. As a child, we lived less than a mile from part of the course and I remember vividly handing out orange slices and cheering on the runners. Mind you this was back in the old days, when no qualification was necessary, but the guts and fortitude to challenge "heartbreak hill" and other difficult aspects of the race course. This race means many things to runners, but those that run Boston know they have joined a special group. This year is no exception as the elite field has been announced here.

Only you can make that choice, but I think you can do it!!! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Krissy....it would be interesting to see what my time could be if I did just a marathon and not include a half the day prior!
DeleteIf you choose to BQ Ihave no doubt you can train and reach your goals!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kat....I was thrilled with my marathon finish, and will always treasure that first and perhaps only one.
DeleteKnowing you Pam....absolutely you can do it! :c) So very inspiring...truly....
ReplyDeleteDREAM BIG!!!
Thanks so much. It is fun thinking/dreaming about goals, but I need to be realistic about what I really would like to do.
DeleteSetting your sights on Goofy was no small challenge. It is just a matter of what your goals are for your running future!
ReplyDeleteLisa, you are correct. Goofy was a massive challenge since it included a first marathon. I really lost my mind signing up for that, but am SO happy I completed the race. It was a blast and who knows, maybe in 2015 I will have to try again for the anniversary Goofy medal. runDisney will surely make it special.
DeleteYay for meeting Desi! 29 minutes is well within reach, especially coming off of a half. Boston is yours if you want it! : )
ReplyDeleteBoston is on my bucket race list. (I'm far from qualifying!)
ReplyDeleteSO fun meeting Des! I say do it, I have run Boston twice and it is the greatest running experience. 29 minutes isn't much with the right training and not running after a half marathon :)I knocked 13 minutes off my PR to BQ.
ReplyDeleteWow Pam...qualifying for Boston would be amazing! I think it's definitely in your reach maybe with a little speed work and assuming your next marathon isn't in 80 degrees and 100% humidity and you don't run a half the day before!
ReplyDeleteI say go for it! You wouldn't want to regret not giving it a shot!
